Just in case you arrived here after looking for the Surrey Cattery Directory, it has now been merged into the British Cattery Directory. Although we have kept this website alive, we no longer need the surreycats.co.uk domain name, which is now available for sale.
So, if you came here to read about our website design services, read on...
We have no plans to be masters of the universe, or even masters of all trades. Instead, we specialise in what we do well, which is designing WordPress and HTML websites. We don't do anything else.
Although they can be made to look identical, HTML sites and WordPress websites are very different under the skin. HTML websites are often called 'brochure websites'. Pages of an HTML website are like pages in a glossy magazine, or a brochure. They present all the information you want to show visitors, but aren't interactive. This website is an HTML website, for example. HTML websites are stable, reliable and don't need much in the way of maintenance and, for many businesses, HTML websites are ideal, even if they have certain limitations. You can't incorporate a blog into an HTML site and you can't easily add things like online payment systems, shops and so on. They're also trickier to deal with if you want to add new pages regularly.
As we said above, we also build WordPress websites. WordPress is actually a program which you install on your hosting and which runs your website for you. It includes an admin area to allow owners to create new pages or edit existing ones. WordPress, when extended with additional plugin-software, allows you to add things like an ordering system, or online payment system. If you want to add a blog to allow visitors to post comments on your website, WordPress is probably the best solution on the market.
However, WordPress websites are more expensive in the long run. Depending on your specific site setup, you may need to pay for add-on software, and pay an annual fee to keep the software updated. Also, WordPress needs better quality hosting to make it run properly. A WordPress site is also a magnet for hackers, and so needs constant maintenance to keep it safe. They're also a little slower than HTML sites. That said, for sites like our Kennels or Cattery Directory, WordPress is the perfect solution. WordPress can do things that aren't possible with plain HTML.
If you're thinking of getting a website for your kennels or cattery, you don't need to decide which type of website suits your needs best. Tell us what you want and we'll tell you which is the best choice, and why. The only thing you need to know is what you want your site to do.
Any business website needs to looks professional and be reliable. You also need a site that is accessible for visitors no matter what kind of browser they are using. Every site we build is fully responsive and compatible with all browser types. So you don't need to worry about that.
We can only provide you with a price if you request a quote, explaining what you want your website to do, etc. That said, once the site is finished and approved, we provide you with the website in a zip format, ready for uploading and installing onto your web hosting or, if agreed, we will install it on your hosting for you. Prices for HTML websites are based on the number of pages you require and include, where necessary, the additional scripts for things like image galleries and contact forms. Any additional costs, if necessary, will be explained in your pre-order quote.
If you don't want to deal with website hosting, server security, site maintenance and backups, we can offer that service as an extra. Similarly, if you don't want to spend time updating your pages, we can also do that for you, leaving you free to run your business. If you are interested in these services, tell us and we'll include the cost in your quote.
The internet is full of sites which offer 'free websites'. In most cases, you register for an account and host your site on their hosting. These services usually include a free domain name too, which sounds good. Then you have to build your own website using their 'website builder'. The end result is usually awful, but it will be free. Unless you pay for one type of 'extended' or 'pro' service or another, you'll find adverts and links added to your site. But free is free. Whether or not it's likely to add value to your business is debatable. Be aware that if you sign up for something with a 'free domain name included' but then get fed up with owning a crap website, you'll find you can't simply take your domain name and go elsewhere. Your domain name was free and doesn't belong to you. Replacing one of these free websites generally involve kissing goodbye to the domain name you were using. It sucks, but some people like 'free'. It's your choice..
